Warren P. Williamson, Jr., a trailblazer in broadcasting, introduced radio to Youngstown with WKBN in 1926. He started his broadcasts from his home basement, and by the next year, WKBN relocated to a studio at the downtown Y.M.C.A. In the early 1930s, Williamson set his sights on introducing television to Youngstown. He applied for a television license, but the Federal Communications Commission paused all requests due to a surge in applications nationwide, as they needed time to determine channel allocations.
