The recycling centre at Newline in Lurgan will close shortly for resurfacing, which is expected to cause “inconvenience and disruption”. The busy site is it need of essential works and would be closed for around three weeks. The facility is owned and operated by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council. And members of the environment services committee were told this week that the work should soon get underway.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council commemorated the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a series of events that paid tribute to this pivotal historical moment and honoured those who made immense sacrifices during World War II. A national Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving took place at St. Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh on Wednesday 07 May from 7.30pm, which marked the beginning of the anniversary commemorations in the borough.

A Co Armagh radiographer is among the Radiology team at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast lacing up to take on a unique running challenge in aid of the Stroke Association this weekend. On Sunday, May 11, Amy O’Hanlon, from Dromintee, and her colleagues will be taking on the challenge of running 10km between hospitals across the Belfast Trust.

Pre-op assessments ahead of surgeries to be performed in Craigavon Area Hospital are to be carried out in Armagh, with plans to relocate the service, Armagh I can reveal. And St Luke’s Hospital, on the Loughgall Road, is the earmarked venue. Previously, other services have been relocated from St Luke’s to Craigavon Area Hospital, including the Bluestone unit. Now the trend of services moving from Armagh looks set to reverse – certainly in terms of pre-op assessments.

Residents in Armagh are being urged to be vigilant following a spate of incidents in the coity in the early hours of this morning (Thursday). City Councillor Sarah Duffy said residents in the Culdee, Castle Street and Irish Street areas should be extra vigilant after these areas were targeted. The Sinn Féin elected representative said: “There have been several burglaries and attempted break-ins reported in the Culdee, Castle Street and Irish Street areas, targeting both homes and vehicles.
