STAMFORD — Investigators acting on an anonymous tip found a shoe box containing a handgun, a high-capacity magazine, a ski mask and a black sweatshirt in the possession of a former local basketball star who pleaded guilty to robbing a bank more than a dozen years ago. Job Casimir, 36, and Veronica Horvath, 22, were arrested July 20 following a vehicle stop near a Stamford motel led by the Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics and Organized Crime unit.

STAMFORD — A city man is accused of trying to rob a FedEx driver after a dispute over whether or not that driver had struck his parked car, police said. Jonathan Gomez, 31, was charged with criminal attempt at second-degree robbery, first-degree threatening, third-degree assault, criminal possession of ammunition and breach of peace during a raid on his South End home early Thursday.

STAMFORD — A 22-year-old Norwalk man is accused of sneaking into the home of a family he was doing work for and attempting to sexually assault their 9-year-old daughter, according to a state prosecutor. Ilmar Rivera-Zuniga was arrested Monday by Norwalk police on charges of first-degree kidnapping, home invasion, criminal attempt at aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 13, third-degree strangulation, third-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor.

STAMFORD — A 32-year-old Bridgeport man facing a murder charge in connection to the August 2021 fatal stabbing of a 43-year-old Norwalk man was transported back to Connecticut on Monday, nearly four months after his initial arrest. Donald Copeland was arrested in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., by the U.S. Marshals Service during an early morning raid on a home on Feb. 18, according to police.

STAMFORD — A New York man was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for breaking into a pregnant woman's Stamford home and assaulting her in February 2021. In September, 29-year-old Marc Emanuel, of Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty as a part of a deal with state prosecutors to first-degree burglary, second-degree assault on a pregnant person, violation of a condition of release and violation of a protective order.
