    PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) -There was a meeting at First United Methodist Church on Julianna Street in Parkersburg on Monday night to address homelessness in the city. The hosts were Parkersburg City Council Members Wendy Tuck and Zak Huffman. Michele VanMatre was the moderator and volunteer coordinator. Huffman and Tuck hosted a town hall on homelessness back in April.

    FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WTAP) -Fairmont University has chosen its new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Allen J. Bedford will begin his new role on June 2, 2025. The provost is the university’s chief academic officer who oversees academic affairs and reports directly to the President. Dr. Bedford is an academic leader with three decades of experience in higher education. He says he is honored and looking forward to starting his new role at Fairmont. See an error in our reporting?

    PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Wood County 911 confirmed there was a house fire on Friday night. The working fire was reported at 8:18 p.m. The fire was at a house on Little Kanawha River Road. Dispatchers say no one was taken to the hospital. WTAP is working to learn the extent of the damage and how the fire started. The Mineral Wells VFD is the lead agency on the call.     PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Thursday’s stormy weather may have played a role in power outages on Thursday night. About 3,000 people in Wood County are without power and 88% of Wirt County is out of power, according to MonPower’s website. Elizabeth has 2,000 outages. Mineral Wells has about 1,000 outages. Power is estimated to be restored on Friday, May 2, 2025. Pleasants County does not appear to be affected.

    WASHINGTON, W.Va. (WTAP) -One person was taken to the hospital after a side-by-side crash in Washington on Tuesday. Wood County 911 says a side-by-side crashed on Pine Run Road at 6:58 p.m. Officials were considering using a helicopter to get him to the hospital, but the weather played a factor in that not being able to happen. He was transported by ground to Camden Clark Medical Center. WTAP is working to learn how badly he was hurt.
