This fall the CAS released four new reports in Phase II of the CAS Research Paper Series on Race & Insurance Pricing. While three of the papers focus heavily on regulation, model governance and approaches to avoid bias in pricing, the fourth presents a case study with actual data and aims at giving a real-life example of how new variables could remove bias in pricing.

For many years most major personal lines auto carriers have been offering usage-based insurance (UBI) programs allowing customers to be rewarded for safe driving and to do this, they have employed different methods to track driving behavior by collecting telematics data. Some of these programs have resulted in improved loss ratios for carriers while providing an answer to customer concerns that traditional pricing doesn’t reflect their good driving.

by Rachel Hunter The Town of Gouverneur announced at its March 12 meeting that it is still accepting applications for housing rehabilitation projects. The Town of Gouverneur was recently awarded $400,000 in funding through the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) to assist approximately 10 eligible single-family homes located in the town.

by Rachel Hunter The Gouverneur is being called upon once again to support one of its own in their battle against cancer. Tracy Goodale of Gouverneur was recently diagnosed with Stage 2 Brain Cancer, and is undergoing a six-week series of radiation treatments in Watertown. Tracy has been out of work since before October 2023 when she had a craniotomy. Over $3,000 out of the $10,000 goal has been raised to date through a GoFundMe fundraising page for her gas, food, and other expenses.

by Rachel Hunter The Gouverneur community is abuzz about the scrumptious St. James Fish Fry this Lenten season. Nearly 300 meals were served up by volunteers on Friday, March 1 in the St. James School gymnasium. The crowd also enjoyed the opportunity to support St. James School by shopping at the Scholastic Book Fair. The St. James Fish Fry series is held annually to raise funds for the St. James School. For over 60 years, the school has provided outstanding education to the whole community.

Upon the recommendation of Village of Gouverneur Chief of Police Darren Fairbanks, the Village of Gouverneur Board of Trustees approved hiring Lia Canell of Gouverneur in the position of part-time police dispatcher.
