ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – After battling back to back season ending injuries, linebacker Shaq Thompson was released from the Panthers after 10 years with the team. But the veteran knew that wasn’t the end of his story. “One thing about me. I never end my career on an injury,” he said. Thompson landed in Buffalo this offseason, as the Bills signed him to a one-year deal. Ready for his 11th NFL season, the linebacker feels he brings a lot to his new team.

After winning the Class D state championship, the Penn Yan boys lacrosse team is this season’s final Primetime 585 Spotlight Team. Penn Yann took a thrilling 11-8 comeback win over Chenango Forks of Section IV on Saturday, earning its second state title in program history. The Mustangs were led by Teagan Fingar, scoring seven goals and two assists. Fingar helped his team score five goals in the third to take the lead and rally back from a 5-2 deficit at half.

Once a young girl who followed in the footsteps of her three hockey-playing older brothers, she’s now one of the top players in the Professional Women’s Hockey League draft. “I had these dreams for so long, and it’s kind of just like, wow,” Winn said. “This is what I dreamed of at eight years old, and here I am.”It was in high school at Bishop Kearney when Winn realized she could make it at the next level.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WROC) – The Bloomfield softball team is on its way to the state championship for the second year in a row, defeating Section IV’s Deposit-Hancock 4-0 in the Class C semifinal. Bloomfield struck early, as Ashlyn Wright punched two RBIs in the first inning with a hit to left field. In the second, Sydney Falsone popped up to left and reached on an error, bringing another run across the plate to make it 3-0.
