There was a quality entry of Hampshire Downs forward at the Hampshire Down sheep breeders association premier sale in Shrewsbury. There was a significant increase in the averages for ewe lambs and shearling rams. Bluetongue concerns and the lack of rain in some areas of the UK may have contributed to a slightly lower clearance rate of 62%. Quality rams with high figures were highly sought after, with commercial farmers investing strongly.

With breeding starting to quieten down and the first cut of silage in, Tullamore Farm manager Shaun Diver decided to get the ewes and lambs in to weigh the lambs and see how they are performing. The lambs weighed aged from 38 days old to 76 days old and they were sired by a total of nine different rams. The heaviest lamb weighed in at 41kg and the lightest lamb weighed in at 12.5kg.

A crowd of over 60 Suffolk enthusiasts gathered in Blessington Livestock Mart on Sunday 25 May for the Suffolk Sheep Society South of Ireland branch trimming and showing event. The day kicked off at 2pm with the first demo from Ian Donald. As part of his demo he first washed a lamb to demonstrate the best way to wash a sheep before trimming. He then followed on by trimming a sheep and gave some top tips on how to get that show finish.

Over the last few years, the Luscious Ladies online timed auction has become an extremely successful annual event for brothers Dwayne and Gerard Shiels from Letterkenny, Co Donegal. This May sale was no different, with a 100% clearance rate being achieved and an overall average of €1,075 achieved for the 27 lots sold. Topping the sale selling for €3,600 was a special pedigree Texel ewe lamb named Woodtown Íly.

There was an entry of 145 sheep across five different breeds for the May Fair sale in Borderway Mart Carlisle. There was a steady trade throughout the day leading to a respectable clearance rate. Topping the sale selling for 4,000gns (€5,011) was a Badgerface ram lamb named Irt Vale Global Domination from Oliver Watson. He was sired by Cleenagh Expresso and out of Sunnybank Black Beauty. The winning bidder on this powerful ram lamb was Lodge Pit pedigree livestock.
