ROCHESTER, N.Y. — New legislation being introduced wants to improve public safety. It’s called the PROTECT Act and it would give judges more power to hold those that committed crimes while they wait for trial. PROTECT stands for Pretrial Risk Overview for Threat Evaluation Custody Treatment. The bill was introduced by state Sen. Pam Helming and Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter and has bipartisan support.

Rochester, N.Y. — A small gray-looking block plays a crucial part in Krittika Goyal’s research at the Rochester Institute of Technology. “This is a biomimetic skin phantom. It consists of two layers. The top part, the black part, is made of a polymer that's called PDMS,” explained Goyal. The phantom is a model that mimics the electrical properties of human skin. Goyal places electrodes on the model, testing how they would react to different skin types.

A major donation is helping the Ovid community recover after a massive fire in January destroyed much of Main Street. More than 60 people were displaced and many are still working to get back on their feet. “They’re still looking for employment [and] many still need housing," Fire Chief Tim Westlake said. "They lost clothing and items you need to survive. All those had to be replaced."In the aftermath of the fire, the Ovid Fire Relief Fund was created.
