Runaway pony named 'Sassy' rescued on Indiana Toll Road

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Indiana State Police saddled up for an unusual day on Sunday when they were called to wrangle a runaway pony on the Indiana Toll Road. The call came in around 11 a.m. about a pony spotted in the median near mile marker 44 in LaPorte County. Two troopers rushed to the scene, but when they arrived, the pony was nowhere to be found. "It's one of those more unusual calls, but we get unusual things from time to time," ISP Sgt. Ted Bohner said.

Owner Folashade Familola, who emigrated from Nigeria five years ago, says her love for fashion started at a young age. "My mom is a fashion designer, so I grew up in a fashion designer's home. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Hundreds of people in the Chicago area stayed home from work on Monday as part of a nation-wide protest. Hundreds march in West Chicago, protesting the Trump administration. The large group marched from the corner of Rt. 59 and Roosevelt Road to West Chicago City Hall to protest the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). "We don't like ICE in the neighborhood, in West Chicago," said. Gabriella Hernandez with the nonprofit Casa DuPage.

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Police are warning residents on the city's Northwest Side about a series of sexual assaults. At least three attacks have been reported in the last month around Logan Square. The most recent happened this weekend near Troy and Logan Boulevard, just before 4 a.m.Investigators say a man approaches women from behind and then sexually assaults them. On two occasions, he was armed with a sharp object. Two of the attacks happened on a sidewalk.
Newest rockhopper penguins join colony in Shedd Aquarium exhibit

Pico and Douglas are rockhopper penguins that hatched at Shedd Aquarium last summer and are finally big enough to join their fellow flightless friends in the Polar Play Zone. Males are already the same size as adults in their colony, but visitors will be able to spot the young penguins since they're still without the yellow crest feathers above their eyes.

MATTESON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A shooting in the south suburbs Sunday afternoon left two people dead. It's not clear what led up to the shooting, but gunfire erupted near a home on Oakwood Lane near Kostner Avenue in Matteson. This happened around 2:30 p.m. Police said two men were taken to the hospital, but they both later died. One victim has yet to be identified. The other, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, was 20-year-old Antoine Brown of East Chicago, Indiana.

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three men are in custody after a police chase and crash on the city's North Side. A black Nissan sedan was pulled over near Seminary and Irving Park in the Lakeview neighborhood around 3 a.m. That's when Chicago Police said the vehicle fled the scene and later crashed into a bus shelter on inner North Lake Shore Drive near Sheridan. No one was hurt in the crash. Four men tried to run away, but three of them were taken into custody.
2024 on track to set record as the warmest year in Chicago

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Given the chill in the air the past few days, it may be hard to believe the past year is shaping up to be Chicago's warmest on record. The city's warmer-than-usual temperatures broke the record for the warmest year-to-date through November, which was set in 1921 with an average temperature of 56.4 degrees, the weather service said.
