North Boone softball's historic season ends with a second-place finish at state

PEORIA, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — North Boone softball came into the season with the goal of winning the Big Northern Conference and maybe a regional title. But Saturday, they found themselves playing in the 2A state title game. They came up just short to Carterville 1-0 for a second-place finish. Senior pitcher Cami Carter was dealing yet again, and the North Boone defense came up with a few big plays to keep things scoreless through seven innings.

Several local kids got the early chance to lace up their cleats on Saturday and get to work in the 19th annual Rockford Football Training Camp. Hundreds of youths gathered at the Indoor Sports Center Saturday morning with a very special guest in attendance. Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds was one of the instructors. Edmunds is entering into his seventh season in the league.

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — It was a busy day at the Indoor Sports Center Saturday morning. Two different youth camps took place. One of them was the Girls Flag Football Clinic. Girls flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports nationally at the high school level. Women’s flag football is played at the World Games and will soon become an Olympic and professional sport. Illinois became the 9th state to officially sanction the sport earlier this year.

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — A big soccer battle ensued Friday night in Freeport between the Pretzels and NIC-10 champion Boylan. They were playing for the title of class 2A regional champions. Gianna McGraw was pulled up from JV for the postseason and scored the lone goal of the night for the Titans. Boylan won 1-0. Freeport ends their season at 9-6 overall.
Orangeville completes comeback win over Lena-Winslow to secure 1A softball regional championship

ORANGEVILLE, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Postseason softball is in full swing. A big crowd turned out in Orangeville Friday night for a class 1A regional championship game between Lena-Winslow and Orangeville-Aquin. The Panthers went up 3-0 in the third inning, but Orangeville rallied to win 4-3. Lena-Winslow finished the season at 12-12 overall. Orangeville will face Dakota in the South Beloit sectional on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.For highlights of the regional championship game, watch the media player above.
