(WBRC) - A volunteer fire chief in Lay Lake is concerned for neighbors in the Talladega County community of Fayetteville because their roads are in such bad shape, hindering ambulances and fire trucks driving on it. Chief Yancey Brown with the Lay Lake Volunteer Fire Department says he’s told neighbors on Aubie Lane to expect delays in their response times.

    GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) - A Gadsden firefighter who was seriously hurt when a tree limb fell and hit him is slowly making his way back to work. Lt. Justin Campbell with the Gadsden Fire Department says he doesn’t remember what happened, but if it wasn’t for his family, he wouldn’t be here today. Back in May, Campbell’s wife says he was cutting a tree that was leaning on another tree near their house when a piece of that tree fell, hitting him in the head.

    ANNISTON, Ala. (WBRC) - A great chief and an even better person. That’s how people are remembering Anniston Fire Chief Jeff Waldrep, who died earlier this week after suffering a heart attack. First responders from all around east Alabama gathered to say goodbye to Waldrep, who served as Anniston’s fire chief. “Chief Waldrep had a lasting impact, and I think it’s evident from the outpouring of support that we have here today,” said Jackson Hodges with the City of Anniston.

People who live in the Peaceful Meadows Subdivision have tried patching up potholes themselves, but they don’t hold up. “My husband, as well as some other gentlemen in the neighborhood, they try to fix them on a regular basis. We have spent hundreds and hundreds if not thousands of dollars,” said Katrina Nail.

    GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) - City leaders in Gadsden are discussing how they plan to enforce new laws regarding the sale of hemp and THC products in Alabama. The Alabama Attorney General’s Office has clarified that it will be illegal to sell or possess smokable hemp products as of July 1, 2025. The attorney general’s office said someone could be prosecuted for having or selling those products on or after July 1, as well.
