FLINT, MI – First-term Flint City Councilman Quincy Murphy has died, the city announced Sunday, Sept. 29. “The beloved community activist and Third Ward councilman was a tireless advocate for the residents he served,” reads a statement from the city. “We offer our deepest condolences to his family.”Murphy, a longtime activist in the Dewey Park neighborhood, won his council term during the November 2022 election.

SWARTZ CREEK, MI – Several people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a person drove through a group of United Auto Workers strikers at the Flint Processing Center. Matt Bade, the chief of police for the Metro Police Authority of Genesee County, said about five people had minor injuries after the incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. outside the facility. The strikers were blocking an exit to the processing center on West Bristol Road, Bade said, when the incident took place.

GRAND BLANC TWP, MI -- Residents in eight units are temporarily displaced after a fire Sunday evening at Knollwood Village Apartments. Firefighters were called out shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, to the apartment complex off East Hill Road in Grand Blanc Township for a residential structure fire. “They called in saying that they had some in the building, but they could not see any flames,” Grand Blanc Township Fire Chief Robert Burdette told MLive-The Flint Journal at the scene.
