Doug Eltzroth, owner of Just Vanilla Coffee Bar, is opening a new location in the Regions Building in downtown Jackson. Developer Kumar Bhavanasi recently purchased the Regions Building, along with the Pinnacle and Deposit Guaranty buildings, revitalizing the downtown area. Bhavanasi is offering incentives like free rent and buildout assistance to attract businesses like Eltzroth's. Doug Eltzroth and his wife came to the Jackson area more than 20 years ago to work for Belhaven University.

Four candidates for mayor of Jackson as well as seven candidates for city council convened at Greater Mt. Bethel Church on Thursday to tell onlookers why they should be in office. The forum, hosted by Working Together Jackson, highlighted mostly economic issues. Working Together Jackson is a non-partisan, broad-based organization, consisting of more than 35 member institutions that cross racial, religious and economic divisions.

Southwest Airlines launched its first direct flight between Nashville and Jackson after advocacy from major companies like Nissan and Amazon. Medgar Evers International Airport is undergoing renovations, including new escalators, elevators and restroom upgrades. Airport officials are exploring adding direct flights to Chicago, Denver and South Florida, contingent on financial feasibility.

On time and ready to go. The Jackson area's newest Chick-Fil-A will open this week. The newest Chick-Fil-A is the second one for Flowood, and it is next to GI Associates at 2520 Lakeland Dr.A new building was built, and it is on top of where the Flowood Ruby Tuesday's stood for nearly 20 years. Ruby Tuesday's was torn down in the last two years. Scott Lawhorne of Chick-Fil-A corporate, promised in the fall of 2024 that the goal for opening was late March 2025. An April 10 opening is pretty close.
