It happened in at Castlecoohill, Clogherhead around 1.30pmFire and rescue personnel from Drogheda and Dunleer attended the scene along with the ambulance service.

Concern's being expressed over the level of staffing in the Garda Armed Support Unit in some regions. The issue was raised by a number of delegates who spoke to The Journal at the Garda Representatives Association's conference in Killarney with the shortage said to be among the most acute in Kildare and Meath. It reports that Gardaí who qualified for the ASU two years ago have still not been deployed. LMFM News understands that includes gardaí who are currently based in the North East.

Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín is calling for the Minister for Justice to come to the next Trim Municipal District meeting to engage with the local community of plans for an IPAS centre in the town. A decision is due by the end of the month on an application by Erin Park Ltd to transform an industrial unit in the Oak Tree Business Park into a facility for international protection applicants. A similar application in Kells was withdrawn last month following local concerns about its suitability.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a hit and run in Ardee, in which a garda was seriously injured. The officer had got out to approach a parked van, when he was struck by the vehicle in the Clonmore area around 4.20am on Friday. He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital with serious leg injuries. Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 6871330, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
