HOMER, Neb. — Coming off a winter season that saw the Dakota Valley High School girls' basketball team take fourth at state, the track season brings a bit of a different style of competition for Ella Otten. But it doesn't make the competitive drive any less for the DV freshman, who won the girls' mile race by more than six seconds. "Running track really just comes down to you versus yourself out there," said Otten, who was an all-state hooper this winter for DV.

Abby Lee comes across as a humble, thoughtful, soft-spoken high schooler. But put her on the basketball court, and her game speaks volumes. The Journal's Large School Player of the Year, Lee was a force to be reckoned with for the Bishop Heelan High School girls' basketball team. A multi-sport standout who's been a part of Crusader state titles in soccer and volleyball, Lee especially shines on the basketball hardwood.

The 2024-25 SCJ Large School All-Area Girls Basketball Team is led by Player of the Abby Lee of Bishop Heelan and features another Crusader on the first-team in star Melina Snoozy.

The Sioux City Musketeers are moving on. Sioux City pulled off a two-game sweep of the Fargo Force, competing the best-of-three series win over the Force on Wednesday night at Tyson Events Center with a 5-2 victory in the first round of the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs. "We had great energy in the building," said Sioux City head coach Jason Kersner. "I know it can be hard for people to get out to games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, but we had some really passionate fans behind us tonight.
