Authorities are urging residents along Western Australia's Pilbara and Kimberley coasts to expect severe weather for much of the week as uncertainty remains over where a forecast tropical cyclone will make landfall. Currently north-west of the Kimberley coast, tropical low 18U is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone by Wednesday night. It is currently about 290 kilometres north-west of Broome and moving south-west at about nine kilometres per hour.

The WA government has sought the help of two multinationals in a bid to halt a series of rolling blackouts impacting the state's mining heartland. Kalgoorlie-Boulder, 600 kilometres east of Perth, has been struck by repeated blackouts over more than a decade, leaving the town's 30,000 residents increasingly angered. The situation came to a head in January when a multi-day outage left residents queuing for fuel and scrambling for relief as temperatures reached into the high forties.

Western Australia's AFL clubs could be playing in-season games in the state's South West under a new deal currently being negotiated between the WA government, the AFL, and the North Melbourne Football Club. The deal, which has been the subject of several months negotiations, would see North Melbourne host West Coast and Fremantle for two "home" games in WA each season.
