GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After a long stretch of less than ideal air quality, some relief may be on the way. A cold front is set to sweep through West Michigan Tuesday evening into Wednesday, bringing a chance for showers and thunderstorms. A few of these storms could be on the stronger side, but severe weather is unlikely in West Michigan. The east side of the state has a chance to see some storms producing damaging wind and small hail.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — There is a chance the northern lights could make an appearance in West Michigan if the wildfire smoke is able to clear in time. The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a G4 geomagnetic storm watch for June 2. This level is considered severe and may bring the northern lights into West Michigan. A G4 geomagnetic storm correlates to the Kp index, or the measurement of geomagnetic activity.

Air quality this morning is some of the worst we've seen in West Michigan since wildfire smoke moved in late last week. An air quality alert stays in effect for Newaygo, Oceana, and Mecosta counties through Thursday. https://t.co/aZPIedw5zT

It’s me, I’m the friend. I’m sad. 😔

Hi @AmericanAir 👋🏻 My friend and I are taking a trip this fall and strategically planned our flights so we would be on the same connecting. However now she’s now longer on that flight and doesn’t have the option to move back onto it. Super frustrating. Can you explain?????

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Muskegon and Oceana Counties until 10:00 pm. 60 mph winds and quarter sized hail possible. https://t.co/SAI2tsOBae
