Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — A strong cold front brought a burst of snow this morning across the area resulting in a slow ride to work. Much colder air crossing the lakes tonight will result in more localized lake effect snow to fall. Tonight's snow will be much more fluffy due to the colder temperatures so blowing and drifting of snow is possible in the most persistent snow bands.

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — It looks like many areas in the Southern Tier will see the first accumulating snow of the season heading into late tonight and Friday. The snow looks like it will avoid more densely populated areas near Rochester and Buffalo. Higher elevations south of the city will experience colder temperatures, leading to more efficient wet snow production later this week. Here's what that looks like as you look up through the first few thousand feet above.

Rochester, N.Y. -- High pressure will nestle into Western New York on Saturday which will bring a brief end to the cloudy skies. It will be a cool day and breezy as temperatures will fight to reach the low 50s. We will lose the sunshine pretty quickly during the course of Sunday morning. No rain is expected until a few showers pass through overnight Sunday into Monday morning. Only the wind may play a role in the Bills game on Sunday late afternoon.

Rochester, N.Y. -- You may have noticed that while there's been many days with clouds, there hasn't been much rain falling lately. This is true locally but also across much of the nation. Notice on the map below how extreme the drought conditions are in Southern Ohio, West Virginia and Southern New Jersey. It can be more difficult to notice in the fall because the lower sun angle and cooler days don't scorch the ground much.

Rochester, N.Y. -- Fresh cool late October air has returned to our region on Thursday afternoon. High pressure will move overhead Thursday Night and Friday morning. Typically under the center of high pressure is when the coldest night of weather will occur. Frost advisories are up for the Northern counties until Friday morning. Counties to the South have already experienced a couple of frosty nights so their growing season is over.
