Catherine Madden from Castledermot has been appointed managing director of the Dublin Gazette. Catherine brings nearly 30 years of experience in the media industry, having held senior roles in Buy & Sell, Independent News & Media, and Hot Press. Catherine replaces the founder and CEO of The Dublin Gazette, Michael McGovern who has officially retired. Founded in 2003, Dublin Gazette is a local newspaper serving communities across Greater Dublin. Catherine joined Dublin Gazette in April 2024.

Number of illegal encampments on Curragh Plains jumped in 2024

The number of illegal encampments on the Curragh Plains has jumped by 66% so far in 2024 when compared to 2023. There was a total of 25 illegal encampments up to October 11 while there were 33 caravans in one location at one point, according to information provided by the Minister for Defence. The issue of illegal encampments is regularly raised with Kildare County Council and the Department of Defence by local councillors as well as in the Dáil and Seanad chambers by Kildare representatives.
Naas pub donates winnings from Curragh race to Barretstown

A cheque for €2,500, was presented to Barretstown's Corporate Fundraising Manager Caroline Tobin by Vincent O'Leary, owner of Fletcher's pub in Naas and Tara Buick from The Curragh Racecourse. The 2024 running of The Friends of The Curragh Irish Cesarwitch was won by The Euphrates. One of 30 runners in the race matched with 30 publicans, The Euphrates, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, was drawn by Fletcher's Bar in Naas.
