Texas has another notch in its belt - it's home to the world's richest man and richest woman: Tesla and SpaceX CEO and presidential confidant Elon Musk and Walmart heiress and Trinity University alum Alice Walton. All told, Texas has 84 billionaires who made the cut for Forbes' World's Billionaires List for 2025, nearly doubling the 45 who were on the list last year. H-E-B Chairman Charles Butt once again made the list as the richest San Antonian.

Housing affordability is weighing on the economic performance of large metros in Texas and across the nation, according to the Milken Institute's 2025 Best-Performing Cities index. The Austin metro area topped the index's list of large metro areas in 2024 but fell five places, in part because of housing costs. Of the 13 metrics comprising the index, housing affordability was Austin's lowest ranking and the worst among the top large cities.

Toyota sales increased nearly 5% in November, a month in which U.S. auto sales beat expectations, fueling momentum going into December and the close of the year. The Japanese automaker said it sold 207,222 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the U.S. last month, up 4.8% from November 2023. For the year through November, sales were up 5% for Plano-based Toyota Motor North America.

Inflation concerns may have weighed on voters' minds this year, but Texans are getting some relief at the dinner table this Thanksgiving. A traditional feast for 10 people will cost $52.97 in Texas this year, down more than 14% from last year, according to an annual survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation. Texans also are spending almost 9% less than most Americans - the national average is $58.08.
