SPOKANE, Wash. — Couger Devereaux Jr., wearing a yellow jail jumpsuit, told a judge he understood the charges of murder and drive-by shooting against him, as he appeared in Spokane County court for the first time Wednesday. The 19-year-old was arrested in Greeley, Colorado on March 18 and was transferred back to Spokane this week to face those charges. Spokane police say he shot and killed 19-year-old Mary Kapustin in July 2024 in what court records describe as a gang shooting.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Across the nation, the Trump administration is quietly revoking the visas of some international college students, including 2 students at Gonzaga University. According to a letter sent to students on Monday, GU President Thayne McCulloh said two international students had their records wiped and visas revoked. President McCulloh says the termination of the visas was only discovered during a regular review of federal databases rather than any official notice.

For most kids, that programming is a jump start for school and life, but now, leadership is facing uncertainty after a federal directive closed the Head Start Regional Office that serves Idaho and Washington families. “If you take Head Start out of this community, there will be a ripple effect that will last decades," said Spokane Colleges Chancellor Kevin Brockbank.
