Hooks Job Corps Center in Memphis are seeking attorneys’ help to file a class action lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Labor.   The students claim that the Department of Labor is breaking its promise and disrupting their futures. “They should not allow Americans to lose the opportunity for success,” Job Corps student Jederi Elena said. The Department of Labor announced on Thursday, May 29, that its decision stems from President Trump’s proposed 2026 budget.

    Rescue efforts resumed early Saturday morning, May 31, for 31-year-old Thaddeus Smiley, who went missing after helping save a child from the Wolf River.    Another person assisted in the child's rescue and was able to safely get back to land with the child, according to the police report. Officials said the river was likely moving at around six miles per hour at the time, a current strong enough to pose serious danger.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis-Shelby County (MSCS) board members approved a nearly $2.4 million contract renewal with the California-based software company, PowerSchool.   This comes as the suit is still in litigation after the company breached a contract with MSCS.   In December 2024, the company found that personal information of thousands of students and staff was stolen by hackers. Data included information from current and former MSCS staff and students.
