Crews were called to Sycamore Canyon for a remote rescue. The battalion chief declared a mass casualty event as more fell ill. A 38-year-old Camarillo man died May 10 while participating in a half marathon on a Thousand Oaks trail as temperatures soared into the 90s, authorities said. A rescue crew was called out to the race route around 11:15 a.m. in an area of Pine Hill Road in Lake Sherwood, reports at the time show.

A Thousand Oaks man out on bail for practicing medicine without a license is accused of continuing to provide medical services despite his lack of credentials and a judge's order. The Ventura County District Attorney's Office said Nitun “Nate” Dayalghai Ahir, 43, originally violated state code peddling medical treatment without any license in July 2024.

Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Newbury Park May 6, authorities said. Deputies are investigating a break-in April 26 at an Ojai house while residents were inside. A resident in the 800 block of Mercer Avenue, in the northeast part of Ojai, called about 8:30 p.m. to report the incident, said Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Tyler Abbott. The city contracts police services with the sheriff's office. The resident reported seeing a light flash under a bedroom door while putting a child to bed, Abbott said.

From just about the beginning, the Simi Valley Family YMCA had outgrown its facility. Twenty-five years later, YMCA leaders want to expand by more than 15,800 square feet as part of a $7.5 million capital project. The facility at 3200 Cochran St. will add a full-size gymnasium, fitness studios, an inclusive playground, family locker rooms and more.
