One person was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after a train struck a tractor-trailer in Oxnard. The crash, between a Metrolink train and the bigrig, was reported around 7:15 p.m. at Fifth Street and Rice Avenue, according to initial reports. Battalion Chief John Cecena, with the Oxnard Fire Department, said at 7:45 p.m. that crews assessed the truck driver and two bystanders — one working at a sidewalk vending location and a patron.

One person was killed and several evaluated in a structure fire on Main Street in downtown Ventura Sunday morning, authorities said. Fire crews were called at 9:46 a.m. to 487 E. Main St. at the Ventura Inn, a longtime fixture for housing in the area. Battalion Chief Shawn Hughes said one person died in the fire and at least 10 more were evaluated but none were transported. He said the Ventura Inn, at the corner of California and Main streets, has 90 rooms of which 89 were occupied.

State records show 76 workers could be laid off. Store opened in August 2022. Site has been home to Bristol Farms and Vintage Grocers stores. More than two years after the Amazon Fresh in Thousand Oaks opened with fanfare, the store on Promenade Way is slated to close in coming weeks. Amazon notified the state March 14 of the closure of its 33,000-square-foot store at the Promenade at Westlake shopping center, saying 76 workers would be laid off, according to state records.

A call about vandalism Monday afternoon in Camarillo ended up as a report about a hate crime targeting Mexicans, authorities said. A Ventura County Sheriff's deputy with the Camarillo station responded to a vandalism report around 2:20 p.m. in the 4800 block of Adohr Lane, a largely agricultural area near the Camarillo Springs Golf Course. Camarillo contracts its police services with the sheriff's office.
