Richard Rung Courtesy of Judy and Carl Pickard Richard Rung not only taught history to his students at Wheaton College. He helped make history as a sailor who landed on Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion in World War II. Rung, a Carol Stream resident, died May 23 at age 100. Rung passed away two months after the death of Dorothy Rung, his wife of 76 years. Services will be held Friday, the 81st anniversary of the D-Day invasion.
