The Centers for Disease Control, through its airport screening program, has detected a new COVID-19 variant, NB.1.8.1 in late March and early April. It's been making headlines since The World Health Organization (WHO) announced its initial detection in China in January 2025, where it quickly fueled a spike in cases. Since then, the CDC says cases are beginning to show up across the United States, although fewer than 20 cases have been reported nationwide.

If you’re looking for seafood that’s a real crowd pleaser, you might consider Off the Hook Seafood and Cajun Grille in Pascagoula. According to the Sun Herald’s very unscientific seafood bracket, this restaurant is the best on the Mississippi Coast, edging ahead of the others by about 300 votes in the final round. Although Off the Hook was the breakout leader through both rounds, this doesn’t mean the other contenders didn’t hold their own.

If it feels like all 63 species seem to target you, you might be right. There are some people who do actually have it worse than others and suffer more during the summer months. The news for these poor souls is mixed, according to an article in HuffPost.

Gov. Brian Kemp recently signed a bill that will offer tax relief to families in an effort to help with expenses associated with raising young children. House Bill 136 will introduce a $250 state tax credit for each child under the age of six, WABE reported last week. The Senate Study Committee on Access to Affordable Childcare recommended the bill. As a native Georgian and avid TV watcher, I am always delighted to find a show that thoughtfully and respectfully represents the South, specifically Georgia. It’s even better when they get the accent right. More and more television shows and movies are coming to Georgia. Thanks to its incentivizing tax rules, we’ve become the “Hollywood of the South.” As a result, Georgia has become the setting of many shows, and even more productions choose to film here.
