After leaving the corporate tech world, one Upstate New York man’s career has gone to the dogs, in the best way. John Fabiano, originally from Amherst just outside of Buffalo, had long envisioned a globe-trotting adventure where he’d photograph dogs in different countries and document their bonds with humans. Photography had always been a passion, starting as a hobby that began in high school that continued into adulthood as he traveled more frequently.

A man in Upstate New York pleaded guilty to a massive mail scam which defrauded people across the United States out of almost a half million dollars. According to prosecutors, Nicholas Janes, 26, of Buffalo, NY, contacted people across the country by phone, telling them they had debt due on an alleged unpaid loan. He would mislead people by claiming to be a local sheriff’s deputy or an attorney at a fake law firm.

Have you seen Cauliflower? Last week the Utica Zoo welcomed three North American beavers back to their Backyards & Barnyards exhibits. Cauliflower, a male, was transported to Central New York along with his sisters, Mustard and Tangerine. The trio was born in 2023 at the Minnesota Zoo. Just 24 hours after their arrival, zoo keepers discovered that Cauliflower had escaped his enclosure.

The votes are in, and the grills are heating up for the Best NY Burger contest finals. Burger lovers have weighed in and the New York Beef Council has announced the top 10 finalists in its ninth annual Best New York Burger contest. Chosen from culinary hotspots, many in Upstate New York, these burger joints earned their spots through public vote. For the final test, an undercover judge will rate their burgers on taste, presentation, and proper doneness to decide which patty reigns supreme.
