Paul Mainieri was lured out of retirement by now-former South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner to lead the Gamecocks’ baseball program after the firing of Mark Kingston. Mainieri certainly wasn’t lacking the credentials: after leading Notre Dame to the College World Series in 2002, he took LSU to Omaha 5 times — winning a championship in 2009 and finishing as a runner-up in 2017 — while accumulating over 1,500 wins during his career before hanging the cleats up in 2021.

South Carolina transfer RB Rahsul Faison continues to await a decision from the NCAA on his eligibility for 2025. Faison, who signed out of the class of 2019, was most recently at Utah State, where he totaled over 1,100 yards while scoring 9 touchdowns in 2024. He entered the transfer portal and joined South Carolina in January, but still hasn't heard from the NCAA on a waiver that would grant him a seventh year of eligibility. Faison didn't play from 2019-2021.
