    Kevin Jones, who runs the Office Ale House in Starbeck, is behind the planning application which would change the building’s use to a micropub and bottle shop. Mr Jones wrote in planning documents that the premises will have opening hours between 12pm to 9pm seven days a week. An alcohol licence will be sought for the sale of alcohol both on and off the premises at these times. A pavement licence for two small tables and four seats will also be sought for the front of the premises on Skipton Road.

    A petition that calls on North Yorkshire Council to change course in its controversial plan to stop erecting stalls for market traders in Ripon has been signed by 1,743 people. The petition was set up by Cllr Barbara Brodigan (Liberal Democrat, Ripon Ure Bank & Spa) and it’s seen 250 people adding their names in the last week alone. North Yorkshire Council has proposed that some traders at both Ripon and Knaresborough markets would soon be forced to set up their own stalls each week.

    The petition was set up by Cllr Barbara Brodigan (Liberal Democrat, Ripon Ure Bank & Spa) and it’s seen 250 people adding their names in the last week alone. North Yorkshire Council has proposed that some traders at both Ripon and Knaresborough markets would soon be forced to set up their own stalls each week. At the moment, traders can choose to pay a surcharge of £5.30 per stall on their pitch rentals.

    It follows a separate application for 224 homes and a primary school on the same site that was approved by North Yorkshire Council’s strategic planning committee in August. Councillors on the committee will meet again in Northallerton on Tuesday to make a decision on the scheme from Gladman Developments. The site forms part of H51 which was allocated for housing by Harrogate Borough Council in the area’s local plan. It covers around 28 hectares of agricultural land to the south of the town.

    The Local Government Boundary Commission for England is looking for residents’ views on where they live. The public body wants to ensure each councillor represents around the same number of people and their divisions reflect community identities. Andrew Scallan, deputy chair of the commission said: “By telling us about where you live and where you access local services, it will help us to create appropriate and meaningful boundaries.
