JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A portion of Interstate 81 and a rest stop had to be closed on Friday as crews responded to a hazmat incident in Jefferson County. According to the White Pine Fire Department, crews responded to a semi-truck carrying a trailer filled with solid chemicals. Fire Chief Derrick Layman said the internal temperature of the chemicals rose above operating levels, so crews responded to cool the cargo. Teams could be seen spraying water on the exterior of the trailer.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — University of Tennessee Athletics announced Monday that Coach Kim Caldwell will be staying with the Lady Vols through 2030. Caldwell and UT agreed to a 1-year contract extension that will keep her with the team through March 31, 2030. The news comes after the Lady Vols ended their season with an appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament over the weekend.

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — A pedestrian was hurt on Sunday night after a car hit them in West Blount County. According to the incident report from the Blount County Sheriff's Office, a 19-year-old was walking on Morganton Road near Pine Grove Way when a car traveling west down the road hit them around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday. Deputies said the 19-year-old was knocked into the opposite lane. The pedestrian was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
