Dozens and dozens of children were present, and it didn’t take them long to scoop up an estimated 1,500 plastic eggs filled with candy from a grassy area underneath cool shade trees.

McCoy retired recently following a career that involved him as city clerk, treasurer and inspector. He was with the city for the better part of four decades and saw both highs and lows.

Students from local schools, both public and private, along with home school students were able to exhibit their works in the inaugural Make My Art Youth Art Show presented by the Valley Arts Council. Arts Council President Suzie Britt was pleased with the participation on the part of local youth and was impressed with the creativity that was seen.

    Published 9:00 am Thursday, April 17, 2025 LaFayette celebrated two longtime residents during Monday night’s city council meeting. Emma Lena Tucker Robinson and Mary Frances Wilkerson Sim’s family members were presented with a proclamation celebrating both of the recently passed women. Robinson passed at the age of 111. She grew up and studied in Chambers County and graduated from Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University.
