But that would be to reckon without the precious green lungs that can still be found along this southern approach to Bradford, if you look hard enough. During the excellent Spring weather we've enjoyed recently, I've become particularly fond of one such area – Bierley Hall Woods. With its series of tiered ponds, this area really is an unlikely haven of tranquility within a heavily industrialised area.

The Cedar Court Hotel was the venue as the Yorkshire Sikh Forum (YSF) hosted its Vaisakhi Celebration on Thursday, May 8. The event drew a large and diverse gathering from across the region to commemorate one of the most significant festivals in the Sikh calendar.

The beams, weighing a total of 660 tonnes, have been installed in Ravensthorpe, near Dewsbury, where work is taking place on the Transpennine Route Upgrade. Due to become operational in 2026, the structure will allow two additional railway lines to be installed through the new station and wider area, enabling faster trains to overtake slower ones which will reduce journey times and boost services.
