The eye-catching art is part of the Blue Kids campaign that takes place in April, during Child Abuse Prevention Month. Its purpose is to get the message out that children are not alone.

Lakemoor trustees have voted to annex a golf course so that the property can be redeveloped as a solar farm, despite reservations by some nearby residents. Trustees voted last week to annex into the village the Pistakee Country Club and to issue a conditional-use permit for the solar farm to operate. The property borders Lakemoor on multiple sides. The golf course property at 815 Bay Road, near the intersection of Bay and Cuhlman roads, was unincorporated but had a McHenry address.

A summer festival may seem like a long way off in the midst of the winter deep-freeze, but plans are well underway for this year’s Fiesta Days in McHenry, which takes place in July. The City Council on Tuesday granted approval of the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Fiesta Days plans, though not without opposition from Council member and mayoral challenger Chris Bassi.

At least two local school districts and McHenry County College have released statements declaring their schools to be safe spaces for all students in response to promises by President Donald Trump of widespread deportation of immigrants. Woodstock-based District 200, Cary-based District 26 and MCC have released formal statements saying they welcome all students and vowing to protect undocumented students at their schools.

The Cary Village Board has chosen developer Cordogan Clark and Associates to build a market-rate townhome and apartment complex at the long-shuttered Maplewood School property. At a Committee of the Whole last week, the consensus was that Cordogan Clark offered the least amount of residential density, a good mix of indoor and outdoor parking and owner-occupied options, which trustees said they liked. Earlier this month, the board was presented with three developers’ designs to consider.
