A boundary change is changing the economics of solar in San Antonio. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Energy updated the boundaries for metropolitan statistical areas and non-MSAs qualifying for the Energy Community Tax Credit Bonus. San Antonio is now included in those boundaries – qualifying local energy projects for an additional tax credit of up to 10%.

The South Texas Drilling Permit Roundup is a weekly review of new drilling permit applications filed with the Railroad Commission of Texas over a 67-county area of South Texas. Drilling is making a comeback in the Eagle Ford Shale. Producers filed 47 drilling permit applications last week to drill new wells in the 67-county region – up 34% from the week prior. Burlington Resources O&G Co. filed more than half of the applications.

A local tech training school is going out of business. A local tech training school is going out of business. United Training Career LLC, operating under the name of United Training Academy, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, as reported in a June 18 filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas. Headquartered in New Braunfels, the school faces approximately $2.19 million in liabilities while holding $127,406 in real and personal property assets, according to the filing.

In the months leading up to May, Zachry Holdings says it was hemorrhaging money on the Gulf Coast. The lead contractor building the Golden Pass LNG export terminal alleges it was losing about $30 million to $40 million every week on the project while only being paid $70 million a month. Facing an untenable situation, Zachry Holdings chose to bite the bullet and file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, outlining hundreds of millions in dollars in unsecured claims.
