Today Fran is CEO at Rapha, but her long CV includes managing Geraint Thomas and Mark Cavendish; a decade at Team Sky/Ineos, in which she became ‘head of winning behaviours’; operations director for Eliud Kipchoge’s sub-2hr marathon record; and then CEO at clothing brand Belstaff. She is also David Millar’s sister, but really that’s just a footnote to a fascinating career.

    Nothing is safe from the claws of innovation when it comes to cycling tech, not even the humble helmet strap. In partnership with the HighBar design team, headed by Eric Horton – formerly of Giro and Specialized – Canyon has launched the Disruptr helmet, which comes with a semi-rigid strap system that claims to position the helmet more securely than traditional fabric-based designs.

    With 50 days to go until the 2025 Tour of Britain Women kicks off on Thursday 5th June, race organisers British Cycling have revealed the route for the latest edition, with four days of racing scheduled between Yorkshire and Scotland. Organisers have confirmed that Stage 1 will head out from Dalby Forest in the North York Moors, with a finish in Redcar later that day along the coast.

    Colnago has launched its new V5Rs all-round race bike to complete its updated range, which started with the release of the radical Y1Rs aero bike in December 2024. The V5Rs supersedes the V4Rs that has been ridden by Tadej Pogačar to multiple Grand Tour and Monument victories. Colnago claims the new frame (including fork) is 146g lighter thanks to the use of Finite Elemental Modelling and mandrels that allow for more precise pre-forming.

    Having Tadej Pogačar aboard your bikes isn’t the worst advert in the world, so for Colnago, having pushed the envelope with the design of the tomorrow’s world Y1Rs aero bike, was the refurb of the decorated V4Rs ever going to be similarly drastic? Davide Fumagalli, Colnago’s head of product, says yes and no. ‘The riders from UAE didn’t come to us and say we needed a better bike, as with the Y1Rs where they had requested a serious aero bike.
