    Ferrero Group is spending C$445 million to expand its Brantford, Ontario, plant to launch a new product, Ferrero Rocher chocolate squares, and to be the first plant outside of Europe to make Nutella Biscuits. The new plant should create 500 jobs, according to an announcement by Invest Ontario, which apparently provided some financial assistance. That will bring total employment at the Brantford plant to about 2,100. There was no mention of when it might come online.

    Although there was a May 1 deadline, USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced it will delay the sampling of not ready-to-eat (NRTE) breaded stuffed chicken products (chicken kievs) for salmonella and the date establishments need to reassess their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans for these products to Nov. 3 of this year.

It happened to Nestle in February; General Mills is next.     Newman’s Own was mildly the brunt of a joke on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live. But the charity-oriented company has never joked about hunger in America, and tomorrow kicks off a “Pay What You Want” Food Truck tour with 100% of proceeds going to Newman’s Own Foundation. Through October, the food truck will travel the eastern seaboard and southern U.S., offering pizzas, salads, cookies, drinks and even dog treats - all Newman's Own products and all in support of a good cause.

    TreeHouse Foods is eliminating its chief commercial officer role and planning for the elimination of 150 corporate support jobs, all in the name of operational efficiency. Scott Tassani, an executive vice president, business president and chief commercial officer, will leave May 30; his duties will be absorbed by other senior leaders. In addition, the company will be centralizing and reorganizing its corporate support functions, which will lead to the elimination of approximately 150 roles.
