After the news was confirmed by her manager, tributes have started to pour in from friends, colleagues and fans. Born in 1959, Sobule built a successful career spanning three decades. She was best known for her 1995 hit song ‘I Kissed a Girl’, which is widely regarded as the first openly queer-themed pop song to break into the Billboard top 20 charts.

    Trans women will be banned from playing women’s football in Scotland and England as of next season. The football associations of both countries announced their decisions on Wednesday, April 30, and Thursday, May 1, respectively, following the UK Supreme Court’s ruling on the legal definition of ‘woman’. Until now, Scotland allowed trans women to compete in their preferred gender category on a case-by-case basis and with testosterone levels taken into account.

Earlier this week, on April 28, TikTok user Jake Glendon posted a video highlighting that some ads for student accommodation in Dublin are excluding LGBTQ+ and disabled people from the application process. In the social media post, he shared a screenshot of one listing, which had a tick beside ‘Postgraduate’ (confirming that it was open to postgraduate students), and an ‘X’ beside ‘LGBTQ+ Welcome’ and ‘Disabled’.
