The funeral for a 9-year-old Ravenna girl who died May 7 after what her family describes as an "accident" will be May 23 in Akron. Newcomer Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements, on May 14 posted Xandria Mancuso's obituary on its website. The 9-year-old was a fourth grader at West Main Elementary School in Ravenna.

Cleveland Clinic is making changes to how they collect insurance copays at appointments, the hospital system announced in a letter sent to patients on May 13. Hospital staff will now collect copays before or at check-in for nonemergency outpatient appointments, Cleveland Clinic stated. This change will take effect starting June 1. Those patients who can't pay their copays at their scheduled visits will have those visits rescheduled, according to the letter.

Akron police have identified and issued a warrant for a suspect wanted in a fatal stabbing on May 10 that claimed the life of Narlon Portis, Lt. Michael Murphy said in a press release. Rosue Pierce, 56, reportedly stabbed Portis, 52, multiple times following an argument in the 1600 block of Cromwell Drive. He is wanted on charges of murder and felonious assault, Murphy said in the release. Pierce is described as a 5'11" male, about 200 pounds with a bald head, brown eyes and gray facial hair.

That's right, the day teams like the Browns officially learn the order of the opponents they'll play. Those opponents, mind you, have been known since at least January, and some even longer than that. A tragic Mother's Day tale involving a trio of kittens had a happy ending for at least one of the furry felines. An unknown man was driving a pickup truck on state Route 8 in Akron at about 3 p.m. May 11 when he decided to throw multiple kittens from his moving vehicle, according to Akron police. One kitten was found deceased on Route 8 southbond before Perkins Street and another dead kitten was found on Route 8 northbound near Glenwood, Lt. Michael Murphy confirmed.
