It took rescue crews and municipal departments more than five hours to free a man who crawled into a Clinton culvert drain and became stuck. Lt. Rob Messner of the Clinton Fire Department said that the department received an anonymous call at around 10:30 p.m. May 12 that a man had crawled into the culvert on North Sixth Avenue. Rescue crews would later discover that the man got stuck around 425 feet in. He was extricated and transported to the Summa Health Akron Campus.

An Akron woman who became a motivational speaker and national advocate for plane crash victims and their families after surviving a plane crash in 1992 has died. Kendra St. Charles died died May 6 at age 73 due to complications from a stroke, according to her obituary. St. Charles was born in Akron on March 24, 1952, to Bob and Mary Sweeney (nee Yanko), according to her obituary. Her grandparents, Nick and Mabel Yanko, owned Yanko’s Restaurant in Highland Square in the 50s and 60s.

If you've lived in Akron long enough, you have seen Don Drumm's artwork. The sun and moon sculpture in the Akron-Summit County main library. The sculpture just outside Taylor Hall at Kent State, with its connection to May 4, 1970. One of his newest pieces in the Cascade Valley Metro Park. And, of course, Drumm's own gallery and store on Crouse Street in Akron. Drumm's signature suns, moons, stars, birds, angels and other metal artworks can be found far and wide.

Tallmadge will soon need a new City Council member with the coming departure of its Ward 4 representative. Mary Gutman, who has served three years on the council, will resign effective May 9. According to her resignation notice, she and her family are moving to Columbus. Her term ends Dec. 31, 2027. "It has been an honor to serve the city of Tallmadge as the Ward 4 Councilwoman," Gutman stated in her letter. She could not be reached for further comment.
