The man a Virginia Beach police officer shot on Wednesday pointed a replica handgun at officers police said. Officers responded to the 4600 block of Honeygrove Road following a report of a suspicious individual at 8:41 a.m. The 911 caller stated that someone had pointed a gun at them, according to a news release. Officers found 18-year-old Shaun Marlar of Virginia Beach whom they believed was armed.

HAMPTON — A shooting around just before midnight Wednesday night on Interstate 64 caused the closure of an exit ramp. Virginia State Police said the motorist of a gold-colored sedan shot at another vehicle traveling eastbound on I-64, near the on and off ramps of Mercury Boulevard. The 263 exit ramp toward the James River Bridge was thus closed temporarily for an investigation of the scene. State police said no injuries were reported.

The Hampton Health District warned against swimming near the James T. Wilson Fishing Pier in Buckroe Beach South after detecting unsafe levels of bacteria in the water on Tuesday. The water at the end of South Resort Boulevard contained enterococci bacteria that exceeded state water quality standards, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The warning will be lifted when the bacteria returns to a safe level.

A person was hospitalized after being shot by Virginia Beach police Wednesday morning. Police said they responded to the 4600 block of Honeygrove Road, which is near the road’s intersection with Independence Boulevard and just south of Haygood Road, following a report of a suspicious individual at 8:41 a.m. Officers engaged a person at the scene and an officer shot the person in question, according to a police spokesperson. It’s unclear what led up to the shooting.
