KGVO-AM (Missoula,MT)

KGVO (1290 AM) is a radio station that serves the Missoula area in Montana and is owned by Townsquare Media. The station broadcasts a News radio format, which is also aired on KLYQ 1240 AM in Hamilton. The Federal Radio Commission assigned the call letters KGVO on March 17, 1931. On May 6, 1932, the station was given permission to change its frequency from 1420 kHz to 1200 kHz and to operate continuously rather than just from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. At that time, KGVO operated at a power of 100 watts. For many years, KGVO has been the main station for broadcasting Montana Grizzlies football and men's basketball games, often referring to itself as the "Home of the Grizzlies." Until 2017, KGVO also broadcast on KGVO-FM at 101.5 FM, which helped extend its reach during nighttime hours. However, on February 2, 2017, KGVO-FM transitioned to a new alternative rock format as KAMM-FM. Following this change, KGVO began using a low-powered translator at 98.3 FM, while KLYQ in Hamilton started simulcasting KGVO's programming as well.
