    After weeks of deliberation and community input, the Burnet City Council on June 10 selected Fourth Street as the location of a future pedestrian bridge over U.S. 281. The project has been in the making since 2024 and will serve as a safe crossing over the highway for residents, especially students from nearby Burnet middle and high schools. “The location was selected because it aligns well with school access points,” wrote City Manager David Vaughn in a recent media release.

    Public access to Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge will likely grow by nearly 1,000 acres thanks to an upcoming land purchase. The Burnet County Commissioners Court recently filed a “letter of no objection” in regard to the refuge seeking to buy 310 acres of land along FM 1174 in the southeast portion of the county.

    A group of Marble Falls FFA students recently returned from an overseas field trip to Ireland with a new passion for world travel and agricultural practices and a stronger appreciation for Texas cuisine. While on the 10-day tour of the “Emerald Isle,” the group dove into the Irish ag scene and history. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said incoming Marble Falls High School sophomore Kaydee Smith, who is treasurer of the school’s FFA.

    The Bulldogs will likely have a new top Dawg come Monday. The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees is expected to hire Grant Freeman as athletic director during its June 16 meeting. Freeman recently resigned from the Wichita Falls school district. BCISD has been on the hunt for a new AD since the announcement of Steve Hale’s resignation in May.
