    Some Mason City residents had a challenging commute to work Friday morning due to flash flooding on roads. Mason City Police Chief Jeff Brinkley said, "We caught a pretty good run of hard rain" for 30 to 40 minutes beginning at 6:45 a.m. The area already saw a lot of rain earlier in the week, so the additional heavy rainfall backed up storm drains, according to Brinkley.

    A Mason City man has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. Todd Aaron Howard Hamilton Sutton Jr., 34, received that sentence Wednesday in Sioux City. He pleaded guilty in February. Sutton admitted that on July 27, 2024, he was the driver of a vehicle pulled over for a traffic violation in Cerro Gordo County, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa.
