QUINCY — Gabriel VanderMaiden, whose quick actions helped save the lives of a police officer and a civilian 15 months ago, was named the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year on April 4 during the Quincy Service Club luncheon. He learned four days later his services were no longer needed by the Quincy Police Department (QPD).

QUINCY — Questions were asked Tuesday night about staffing, playing surfaces, the amount of money possibly generated and the types of sports that could be played at a proposed indoor sports complex in Quincy. However, the biggest question about a facility that could cost at least $30 million is: Who’s going to pay for it? Several ideas were tossed out during the public presentation of a feasibility study in City Council chambers.

QUINCY — To loan or transfer? That was the question posed by Alderman Mike Rein (R-5) during Monday night’s Quincy City Council meeting regarding how the city plans to borrow from the city’s $6 million reserve fund to pay for a water main replacement project on Broadway from 24th to 30th Street. An ordinance that would transfer $4 million in unbudgeted general funds to the water and sewer fund got its first reading Monday night.
