As the All Ireland championship reaches the business end of the season, for those that have exited the competition, questions are now been asked as to what went wrong. Ulster have 6 teams remaining namely, Tyrone, Monaghan and Armagh who are in the last 8 while Down, Donegal and Cavan are in the preliminary quarter finals. Kerry and Cork represent Munster with Louth, Dublin and Meath making up the Leinster contingent.

Monaghan claimed an All-Ireland quarter-final after a brilliant win over Down. The farney men winning out 2-27 to 1-26 to claim top spot in group three in an end-to-end cracker. Micheál Bannigan's goal on the half-hour mark saw Monaghan drawing level at 1-12 apiece. John McGeough having found the Monaghan on 10 minutes. Down led 1-15 to 1-14 at half-time and moved four clear early in the second-half.

Roscommon bowed out of the All-Ireland championship after a two point defeat to Cork. Roscommon needed a draw to progress to the preliminary quarter-final. However, Cork scored a 19 points to 17 victory. Whereas, Kerry missed out on top spot in Group 2 after they were beaten by Meath by 1-22 to 16-points. The results mean, Meath top group two and progress to the quarter-final. Kerry take second place and will have a home preliminary quarter-final.

Monaghan have named their side to face Down in the final group 3 game in the All Ireland series. Rory Beggan takes up his usual berth between the posts with Ryan Wylie, Kieran Duffy and Dylan Byrne in the full back line. Ryan O'Toole, Dessie Ward and Conor Mc Carthy make up the half back line with the Scotstown pairing of Michael Mc Carville and Gavin Mc Phillips at the centre of the field.

Cavan have named their starting 15 to face Tyrone in the final group game of the All Ireland series. Liam Brady retains the number 1 jersey with Niall Carolan, Killan Brady and Cian Reilly making up the half back line. Brian O'Connell, Ciaran Brady and Padraig Faulkner are in the half back line with Ryan Donohoe and Evan Crowe at the centre of the field.
