The city will spend $3.9 million on a new permanent emergency standby power generator at its surface water treatment plant (SWTP) low-lift pumping station. Just weeks after an ice storm knocked out hydro across Barrie, city council decided to purchase the generator April 16 for the SWTP’s pumping station, located at 23 Camelot Sq. “One of the things that we are held liable for personally, as directors of the corporation (City of Barrie), is related to water,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall.

The police search continues for a senior missing since the end of last month. Bernard (no last name provided) was last seen on March 31, 2025 in Angus, said Ontario Provincial Police. “The search has been on-going for several days and is continuing,” said Sgt. Joe Brisebois, OPP media services co-ordinator, on Saturday night. “It remains an active missing person investigation.” Bernard, 85, is described as five-foot-10 with a slender build and was wearing glasses.
