The jury at an inquest into the death of a teenager who was in the care of the State when he was murdered over 15 years ago has retired to consider its verdict. Daniel McAnaspie had more than 20 care placements in the 15 months prior to his death as his life became "increasingly chaotic," the inquest in Trim, Co Meath previously heard.

An agreement has been reached between the CIÉ Group and the company's Trade Union Group (TUG) in relation to both of CIÉ's pension schemes. Under the proposals, eligible CIÉ pensioners would receive an increase of up to 5%. Promised benefits for all members of CIÉ pension schemes would also be maintained. A consultation process with all stakeholders will take place in the coming weeks, followed by a ballot on the proposal, which will be undertaken by the TUG.

The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) has warned of "concerning trends" of rental inflation in Galway that need further investigation. The RTB said that after eight consecutive quarters of high growth in new tenancy rent levels in Galway, it will engage directly with renters, landlords and other rental sector stakeholders in the county this June to investigate the trend further. The board said it will also host a forum to address rental law compliance.

New research has shown that Ireland's international competitiveness ranking would improve if Modified Gross National Income (GNI*) is used as an economic indicator instead of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). GNI* is seen as a more accurate measure of the domestic economy as it excludes much of the impact of the multinational sector. The National Competitiveness and Productivity Council (NCPC) has published research re-estimating Ireland's performance in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2024.
