RTÉ Radio 1, known in Irish as RTÉ Raidió 1, is a national radio station in Ireland run by RTÉ. It traces its roots back to 2RN, a radio station in Dublin that started regular broadcasts on January 1, 1926. In 2010, the station had a budget of €18.4 million. It is the most popular radio station in Ireland, attracting the highest number of listeners.

    A man has been arrested in Co Monaghan on suspicion of human trafficking offences. As part of an ongoing investigation into human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation and forced criminality, gardaí arrested the man, aged in his 50s, this morning. He is currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at a garda station in the north east of the country.

    The seasonally adjusted Live Register total for May 2025 was 165,700 people, down by 4,700 people or 2.8% from April 2025. New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 162,269 people for May 2025, of which 56% were male and 71.6% were Irish. The May Live Register includes claims for the new Jobseeker's Pay Related Benefit which was introduced on 31 March for persons who became fully unemployed on or after that date.

    The official launch of an exhibition to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the birth of St Oliver Plunkett will take place in Drogheda, Co Louth today. The exhibition will include a number of artefacts and memorabilia associated with the iconic saint that have never previously been on public display. St Oliver Plunkett was born in Loughcrew in Co Meath on 1 November 1625 and was ordained to the priesthood in Rome in 1654, having studied at the Irish College in the city.

    The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) is beginning a two-week national inspection campaign focusing on silica dust exposure in construction. The campaign aims to highlight the serious risks associated with exposure to silica dust, which can occur anywhere that concrete, stone, or sand-based materials are being used. According to the HSA, exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust at work can cause silicosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other serious diseases.
