Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland hosted a grand opening celebration for its new Indian Head Club on May 13 that brought together civic leaders, elected officials and community partners to mark the occasion. Charles County’s fiscal year 2026 budget public hearing on May 7 could be described as déjà vu if you watched last year’s meeting. A housing program, which the state provides an annual bond allocation to Maryland’s jurisdictions, is again being utilized in Calvert County. During their May 6 meeting the county commissioners voted unanimously to forward a letter to the Maryland Department of Commerce secretary indicating its transfer of $4.36 million in private activity bonds to the Department of Housing and Community Development for the purpose of participating in the “On-Behalf-of-Bonds Local Government Housing Program.

A Waldorf man will spend 45 years in prison after his conviction for killing a 17-year-old student outside his home. The state’s attorney for Charles County, announced that on May 12, Charles County Circuit Court Judge Monise A. Stephenson sentenced Elijah Bernard Barnes, 20, of Waldorf to 45 years in prison for the second-degree murder of Rajon Lateef Jackson III, 17, as well as related charges.
