The forecast had called for afternoon storms. This was a surprise to no one, as temperatures had rocketed up into the low 90s. The air was heavy with humidity, as if we had suddenly jumped to July for the day. The mosquitoes loved it — just as much as they loved trying to bite us. Brilliant sun accented by the staccato notes of puff clouds danced by in the azure sky as we kept an eye on the heavens during the day.

SHELL LAKE — A rezone and amendatory ordinance for property on Big Sand Lake in Minong that had failed at a previous Washburn County Board meeting was brought back on Tuesday, June 17, and was approved this time. The William Jacott Trust of Roseville, Minn., had requested this rezone. The property was zoned Residential Recreational (RR) 2, and the Jacott family was looking for a rezone of 16.25 acres to RR1 to create parcels to reshape the property to sell more land.

Absolutely scorching weather accompanied us throughout Musky Fest weekend — I noticed some people appeared to really enjoy baking in the intense heat as they wandered through the festival. Me? Oh no way — I like it much colder. In fact, snowmobiling has been on my mind over the past few days! I prefer to see those magical icy flakes swirling through the air instead of pine pollen and cottonwood fluff.
