Four skateparks across Surrey are part of the 2025 Surrey Rides series of events. Every summer The City of Surrey plans the gatherings for skateboarders and also scooter and bike riders, starting June 21 this year. Surrey Rides is open to riders 18 years of age and under, and all skill levels are welcome, according to a post on surrey.ca. Surrey Urban Farmers Market is back for another summer at Royal Kwantlen Park, at 104 Avenue and Old Yale Road. The market season kicks off Saturday, June 5, with EcoFest, held in partnership with the City of Surrey’s Environmental Extravaganza series of spring gatherings. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., it'll be "a fun-filled day with hands-on learning experiences, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, fresh food and good vibes," promises a post on a website where volunteers are sought.

Registration opened Wednesday (June 4) for the 33rd edition of Surrey International Writers' Conference, a five-day gathering for close to 700 delegates every October. The annual event, first held in 1993, fills Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel with writers, storytellers, editors, agents, publishers, fans and others, for workshops, panels, banquets and special events focused entirely on professional development for writers of all kinds.

Ian Thomas will be 75 in July, and he's still writing songs. Not only that, this month he'll tour B.C. with Lunch at Allen’s, a "supergroup" of sorts with fellow singer-songwriters Murray McLauchlan, Cindy Church and Marc Jordan. On Friday, June 13, Surrey Arts Centre is a concert stop for the foursome on a 10-date "farewell" tour that kicks off the night before in Chilliwack and ends June 24 in Vernon. The musical gang first got together in 2004 for lunch at a joint on the Danforth in Toronto.
